Many Miami homeowners do not appreciate the risks involved with using electricity. They assume that they are safely using it when they flip a light switch or plug an appliance into an outlet. They also rarely call an electrician until it doesn’t work.
Although it is true that an electrician in Miami can fix electrical issues in your home before a fire occurs, they can’t fix anything until you notice that something’s wrong. They also can’t stop you from incorrectly using electricity and causing a fire.
How can you prevent electric fires?
Inspect Old Wiring
Any wiring that is 20 years old or older should be inspected by an experienced Miami electrician for issues that might cause an electric fire. Old wiring can have damage from natural aging, moisture exposure and/or animals and insects.
Look for Problems
Flickering and dimming lights that have good bulbs and crackling and/or sizzling sounds when you turn on a light switch are serious problems. You should also hire an electrician if breakers and fuses regularly flip or blow, respectively, or any outlet sparks or fails to work. Additionally, look for evidence of overheating, such as discolored, warm or hot electrical cords, light switch plates and outlet covers.
Use Electricity Wisely
Electricity can destroy your life when it is used incorrectly. Never use an appliance that has any type of electrical cord electrical cord damage. This same rule should be applied to extension cords. Also, use extension cords and power strips for temporary projects only as they are not designed for permanent use and can overheat or overload outlets. Lastly, keep anything that can burn away from electrical cords and electrical power sources, such as rugs, furniture, clothing and lampshades made of paper.
