Five Cost-Effective Ways to Save on Your Electric Bill

Saving on your electric bill can be difficult if you do not plan on making some changes. We don’t mean spending $5,000 on a home solar energy system changes; but cutting your homes energy consumption by 20% is possible with some effort. Below are five ways you can start saving on energy bills without breaking your bank account.

1. First, study your monthly energy bill. Look at your consumption levels and compare month after month. If there are large fluctuations, figure out why. Some energy companies provide detailed energy usage matrices between you and your neighbors. If your bill does, where do you stand? Are you among the lowest, or highest, energy consumers on your block? If your energy usage is high, ask your neighbors what they are doing differently.

2. Along the same lines of asking for help, ask your energy company. Again, most energy companies will provide free energy surveys on your home. They can teach you about what makes a home truly energy efficient and what you can upgrade to do so. Keep in mind, the energy company will not be able to fix your home to make it energy efficient, but simply point out what needs to be done.

3. Once you have an energy survey, or otherwise come up with a game plan on saving energy, consult with a Miami area electrician. Sure, some home energy saving steps can be completed via do it yourself projects, but others may require an electrician in Cutler Bay. Do not take up home electrical projects unless you are a trained electrician. Not only can you damage your home, but your life is far too valuable to risk it doing a home electrical project.

4. Otherwise, and if you do have some money to spend on home upgrades, consider replacing old appliances with energy efficient appliances. Namely large kitchen appliances like your refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and oven would benefit. The same is true for clothes washers and driers.

5. Lastly, plant some trees and spruce up your garden. Trees with lots of foliage can block the sun from beating down on your home. Keeping your home three or four degrees cooler with shading can save you hundreds over the course of a year.

We all want to be good stewards of the earth’s natural resources and save energy. We do what we can each day to make the world a better place. If you save a little money in the process; we won’t tell anyone if you don’t.
